President Bush intends to nominate Vice Admiral Thad Allen to serve as the next Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. As noted in the Statement issued by Secretary Chertoff, if confirmed, VADM Allen will relieve the current Commandant, Admiral Thomas H. Collins (USCGA Class of 1968), when he retires in May.
