January 31, 2001

Taiwan's Evergreen Marine, the world's largest shipping company, said sales fell 8.57 percent in 2000 to T$19.955 billion. The figures were contained in a brief statement to the Taiwan stock exchange, which gave no explanation for the decline, and did not provide profit figures. On Wednesday, shares of Evergreen Marine gained T$0.30 to end at T$23.20 in line with a 2.48 percent rise in the wider market. - (Reuters)
