Comrod introduces New AIS Antenna

Norway-based Comrod A/S has launched a new AIS Antenna, called AC17-AIS. It is specially designed for the new applications within AIS (Automatic Identification System Transponder) and combines a marine VHF antenna as well as an active GPS receiving antenna. The rugged design, especially made for the harsh marine environment with its durable construction, has, at the same time, a beautiful finish for installation on all kind of vessels. As a combined maritime VHF and navigational GPS antenna, the AC17-AIS is also suitable on non-AIS-compliant vessels, work boats, fishing vessels and pleasure craft, where space is at premium and separate VHF and GPS antennas are to be avoided. The AC17-AIS is connected by one cable only and comes with a signal splitter (AIS/F) for separating VHF and GPS. The one-cable solution is important when saving space as well as time of installation is a topic. The total antenna length is 0,97m. Like all COMROD Antennas, the AC17-AIS has the radiating elements completely enclosed in polyurethane foam within a fibre glass tube. This means no condensation and no corrosion, thus avoiding noise at the transmitter due to corrosion at the connecting area. At the same time, the AC17-AIS fixes the conductor firmly and thus eliminates the risk of breakage due to vibrations.
